A sunny clear day greeted the competitors after the regular draw at the Anchor Inn. For my troubles I plucked peg 46 and immediately thought okay its just to try and not finish last in an area where to get over 5lb in a match is a rarity. However the sections were a little bigger due to the amount in the final plus you always had a spare peg either side of you but it did draw in other noted pegs so to compete would be hard.
This past weekend it was the 2015 River Soar Championship at Sutton Bonnington. The river is desperately low and crystal clear and as expected fishing was difficult. With the Winter League just around the corner starting this weekend a few Team Sensas MAS members took the chance to fish the match even though the sections at Sutton are not planned to be used in the league. Below are reports from each of the guys fishing on how the match went.
The River Soar Winter League started and myself and recruit to Midlands angling supplies John Kilby took time to study and observe several sections of the days competition. We started at the Navigation section on the pub side and later visited the 1860 length.
Winter League on the river Soar is the fastest growing attendance angling competition in the UK with 9 teams of 10 it could take a lot more but thats next year :) With the success of the Sensas Soar Masters series this summer the Winter league continued in the same way with the 90 anglers committed over the 6 matches. Each team has about 15-20 anglers so effectively the league could realise double that up to 180 anglers!
Drennan Knockout Cup Qualifier - Barston Lakes, Until this year the Drennan Knockout Cup has been an invitation only event with an impressive list of winners in previous years. This year the format has changed to allow 40 anglers to compete in the event via an 80 peg qualifying match with the top 4 from each section going through to the first round.

IADA Teams of 5 Report From Dave Herron, It’s about time for a long overdue update, mainly because I just haven’t had a chance to get out fishing much this year. However, when a team event comes up I can’t say no, especially to a big team match on Muckno! Team fishing has been making a comeback over recent years in Ireland, Ballybay Teams of 4 and IADA Teams of 5 being the 2 main Annual events. Lurgan CAC have entered a team into all of these events since they started up so this year wasn’t goin
I decided to take a membership card out with Wigston AC at the beginning of the year and thought since I had some time of I would try after a 30 year gap since last fishing the Canal the club control.
