Soar Valley Winter League Round 2 – 25th October 2015, A week after round 1 of the Soar Valley Winter League the second round took place on the same sections that were used in the previous match. This week however the river was a little different as there was a little rain in the week which had put a little flow in the system and there was a frost overnight which could change how the fish responded. As a team we were looking to improve on the first round where we unfortunately finished up in las
Last Sunday saw the start of the Soar Valley Winter League and the first outing for our new Team Sensas MAS, it was wonderful to finally get the whole team together even if the result on the day was not what we had hoped for. As with all rivers in the country right now the Soar is in despite need of water and a good flush through, it is very low and crystal clear. This is causing the fishing to be patchy in places and there are some pegs where no matter what you do it will be an uphill battle. H
This past weekend it was the 2015 River Soar Championship at Sutton Bonnington. The river is desperately low and crystal clear and as expected fishing was difficult. With the Winter League just around the corner starting this weekend a few Team Sensas MAS members took the chance to fish the match even though the sections at Sutton are not planned to be used in the league. Below are reports from each of the guys fishing on how the match went.
Un-Official Winter League Practice Open 27/09 – Phil Ackerley, I heard that Tony Marshall and friends were organising a match on the newer selected parts of the River Soar for the Winter League, these included the Abbey, Brinks and Osiers. We all met at the Barrow Town FC and drew our pegs. I plucked out peg 11 at the Osiers and fellow Team Sensas MAS angler John Waples drew peg 9 on the Abbey. He also met up with fishing buddy from years ago Pete Jayes who was on peg 4 of the Abbey.
Mike Conway Joins Team MAS, Today we are pleased to announce Mike Conway has joined Team MAS. I have known Mike for some time and he will be a great addition to the team. Mike is a qualified angling coach and in the future will compete with Team MAS in team and individual matches. In the mean time Mike will be reviewing equipment and testing new products as well as featuring in up coming articles here on the MAS site.
IADA Teams of 5 Report From Dave Herron, It’s about time for a long overdue update, mainly because I just haven’t had a chance to get out fishing much this year. However, when a team event comes up I can’t say no, especially to a big team match on Muckno! Team fishing has been making a comeback over recent years in Ireland, Ballybay Teams of 4 and IADA Teams of 5 being the 2 main Annual events. Lurgan CAC have entered a team into all of these events since they started up so this year wasn’t goin
It has been a rough start to the season for us so far I am not going to hide that from you, reports have been thin on the ground so far as to be honest there has not been a great deal to write about. Myself and Phil are fishing on the Trent at Burton in the Masters series and so far this has been tough as we are both learning the river. I have not fished the Trent much at all this being my first year on the river and Phil has not fished the river since the 1990’s and the river has changed
Drennan Knockout Cup Qualifier - Barston Lakes, Until this year the Drennan Knockout Cup has been an invitation only event with an impressive list of winners in previous years. This year the format has changed to allow 40 anglers to compete in the event via an 80 peg qualifying match with the top 4 from each section going through to the first round.
