My main aim for today was to fish for bonus Perch as the canal had not really been consistent for Roach in resent matches and to qualify or frame in the match you needed to have a bonus fish or 2 to add to your Bloodworm fish in most cases. For several years I have been visiting Bankend Fishery near Finningley. I usually fish here during the winter months as the silverfish fishing, in my opinion, is some of the best Bloodworm fishing in the country. In a typical five hour session can see me catching between twenty and thirty pounds of Roach or Skimmers. The two methods that I usually use are either pole or slider. You will generally catch Skimmers on the Slider and Roach on the pole.

A cold morning greeted the 60 plus eager competitors for the first round of this new league devised and co-ordinated by the highly respected Joff Woodgett and the ever present Brian Hull. The venue was a new one with the Carillion Hockey club and sports complex offering to feed and refresh the hardy anglers.
Last round of the winter league saw me draw peg 12 on the Greens at Barrow upon Soar. After some good advice I made my way to my peg, when I arrived there the level had dropped and I expected to get a few bites so I set up my feeder rod with a 40g Sensas cage feeder with size 14 Sensas Feeling 3410 hook to 0.15 line.
