The final qualifier of the series has arrived and a last opportunity for some to gain that elusive section win and entry to the final on September 21st. The series has been interesting as we have seen large Eels and may large Perch. The Roach and Skimmers and Hybrids have only shown up in patches but it is nice to see the river full of fry like Chublettes, Gudgeon and Roach. It certainly bodes well for the future of this match length and the River Soar in general.
Evesham 2014 and the best anglers in the country descend to the town for a few days of fishing , watching , drinking and talking. This year however we have our man in the Saturday event , Mr. Vince Callaghan , fellow director of MIDLANDS ANGLING SUPPLIES LTD.
Number 5 in the series beckons and its all to play for as there are more places up for grabs for the Grand Final . I have managed to fish all 5 so far and fortunate to qualify for the Final .
Number 4 in the series and the weather spelt a ''typical Soar day' with clear skies , hardly any rain recent and a strong down-stream wind …..yuk ! , but I still love it because it tests your resolve and gets you thinking plus it throws up unexpected large bonus fish like Tench , Carp and 5 lb Eels , eels ! Yes bloody great snake of 5 lb ! unheard of but great when it happens .
Several days before this one the weather was causing a stir as with the humid and breathless heat the storms were created and with that thunder and lightening. However by the Friday it looked like the Sunday match would escape this and all be well except for a flurry of rain .
Second match of the series and a new part of the river for me as I took an early dip into the bag and pulled out Peg 102 . Where is that i exclaimed ? ……football fields , 3 of them !
